Privacy Policy

1. Who holds the account
Catalystier accounts are held by a parent or legal guardian, not the teenager. The parent's email is used for login and billing, and, with the consent given when the account is created, to send invoices, reminders, and marketing communications.

Every teenager is identified internally by an 8-digit account ID rather than a name. Any label a parent adds for their own reference (e.g. "Oldest") stays on that parent's device and is never sent to our servers or used to generate content.
3. How AI-generated content works
Weekly plans, practice questions, feedback, and guidance are generated by sending the account ID, grade, track, and district (and, where relevant, an essay draft) to an AI provider for a single response. We do not use family data to train AI models.
4. Third-party services we use
Catalystier is built on: Supabase (authentication and data storage), Stripe (billing and payment processing), and an AI provider for generating plans and feedback. Each processes only what's needed to perform its function.
5. Teenagers' privacy
Catalystier is designed for families with teenagers, and the account itself belongs to the adult parent or guardian. We don't knowingly collect a minor's name, and we don't collect a minor's email or contact information as part of the core account structure. If you believe we've received information from or about a minor that shouldn't have been collected, contact us and we'll address it promptly. (Note for legal review: confirm whether COPPA or a similar framework applies given Catalystier's target age range starts around 13.)
6. Data retention
Plan data (grade, track, tasks, progress) is retained for as long as the account is active. Essay drafts are processed transiently and are not written to storage. Downloaded PDF worksheets are generated in the browser and never leave the device to reach our servers.
Some records are kept on a fixed schedule, independent of whether an account stays open, and an automated process enforces these limits daily rather than leaving them as a policy statement with nothing behind it:

Deleting a record from our live systems doesn't instantly remove it from database backups, which age out on their own rolling schedule, or from records a third-party processor like Stripe independently retains for its own compliance obligations.
7. Your choices
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from your account settings — type your email to confirm and it takes effect immediately. Deleting your account cancels any active subscription and permanently removes your student's profile, progress, and plans, subject to the backup and financial-recordkeeping exceptions described in Section 6.
If your family is connected to a school counselor or district through Catalystier, revoking that connection isn't fully self-service yet — contact us or your counselor directly and we'll remove it promptly. You can also contact us any time to request a copy of your data or ask what we retain and why.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated date on this page.
